Ahead of his ordination as the new Bishop of Ossory, Msgr Dermot Farrell has acknowledged that many people have lost trust in institutions but that he hopes “we will not be just be people who proclaim the Word, but people who do it”.
In a pastoral message issued on Sunday the bishop-elect told parishioners that by their “profound witness” they are expressing “the generosity and goodness that springs from genuine commitment to the faith of the Church”.
“Together we are called to find a pathway into the future — all of us people of this place — not only those who are very much at home in the Church, but also those who might feel themselves more distant from it.”
Bishop-elect Msgr Farrell will be ordained on Sunday March 11.
